APPC Management Committee statement on the PACS report
APPC Comment on
Government’s Response to PASC Report
23 October 2009
Updated following the Management Committee meeting on 2 November 2009
The APPC notes the Government response to PASC and welcomes the support the response gives to the principle of self-regulation, to which the APPC remains committed. We are pleased that the Government and others have acknowledged the improvement in our disciplinary procedures including, as it states, “through the greater use of independent figures of standing to consider and rule on possible breaches”
We remain committed to improving the self-regulatory system by creating the UK Public Affairs Council, with the support of PRCA, CIPR and others. We will work with the institutions of government on an ongoing basis to try to ensure that self-regulation becomes as universal as possible across all involved in - or advising on – lobbying these institutions: one of the key tasks of the proposed UK Public Affairs Council.
Furthermore, we will continue to promote transparency through our Register and high standards through the rigorous and independent enforcement of our Code of Conduct.
