APPC AGM

Robbie MacDuff, Managing Director of Precise Public Affairs Ltd, has been elected unopposed as the Chair of the Association of Professional Political Consultants (APPC). Gill Morris, Managing Director of Connect Public Affairs, as immediate past Chair will be Deputy Chair until the 2009 AGM. 
 
In a contested election, eight members were elected to the Management Committee:

As past Chairs
Michael Burrell, Vice-Chairman, Europe, Edelman
Warwick Smith, Managing Partner, College Public Policy
remain members of the Management Committee.
 
Jo Nove, Director of Greenhaus Communications, remains Chair of APPC in Scotland, with Ross Laird of Grayling as Secretary.
 
The meeting reviewed the APPC’s Annual Report, noting a record year for growth, with 14 new members joining, bringing the total to 57 members. The outgoing Chair emphasised that the growth of APPC was vitally important for the whole sector as the UK self-regulatory regime depended on it being accepted by all PA consultancies.
 
The year’s principal activities included:
·         Campaigning to raise the standards of ethics practiced by others in the sector by promoting the Guiding Principles
·         Making a submission to the Public Administration Select Committee Inquiry into lobbying, following up with oral evidence
·         Providing four training seminars on the APPC Code of Conduct, including the first one in Cardiff
 
APPC incoming Chair Robbie MacDuff said:
“I want to thank the membership for supporting me as Chair and to put on record the excellent hard work undertaken by the members of the Management Committee, and particularly by Gill over the last three years. I am pleased that I will have her support as Deputy Chair for the next year. We will soon have a strategy day to identify the APPC’s priorities over the next 12 months and will report back to the membership on our discussions. There will be challenges ahead, as we all recognise, not least because of the ongoing PASC Inquiry. However, these will provide opportunities for the industry to proactively and positively express its views to all our stakeholders.”
