The meeting reviewed the APPC’s Annual Report. The year’s principal activities focused on the development of the UK Public Affairs Council and a Young Consultants’ Committee, which will focus on and take account of the views of younger public affairs consultants. 14 consultants were elected to the newly-formed Young Consultants’ Committee.
The meeting also noted that APPC now has a record 62 members, the most recent joiner being Quiller Consultants.
Incoming Chair Helen Johnson said:
“I am delighted and honoured to be taking over the chairmanship of the APPC at this exciting and pivotal time for the profession.
We remain committed to self-regulation of the public affairs industry. The best way in which we can demonstrate that commitment is by redoubling our efforts to be open and transparent in everything we do, reinforcing the letter and spirit of the APPC Code of Conduct at all times and through active dialogue with key policy-makers. The establishment of the UK Public Affairs Council is a very welcome and positive development and we will ensure that the APPC continues to play a leading role in its development and implementation.
I look forward to working closely with the membership to bring these things about and to continuing proactive engagement with the membership through the Management Committee’s designated contact programme and the Young Consultants’ Committee.”
